Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.

Police then found multiple other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state early analysis show the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the event," they added.

Local authorities said they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for details.

A high-ranking political figure stated the vandalism left him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.

"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
